MY TOP TWENTY FAVORITE GAMES OF ALL TIME
Quite some of my own fans have actually contacted me and talked to me, and most of the time they wanted to know what my favorite games are. Due to everyone agreeing that my wisdom of gaming is quite well known and that I am also an RPG-Strategy gamer master... I would be honored to list my top ten FAVORITE games of all time. These are my FAVORITE GAMES of all time, this is NOT the best games of all time section! This section like the BEST GAMES section has been changed a bit, a little redone... and the biggest change, now there are TWENTY games instead of ten! On the BEST games section however, there are THIRTY!
Paulos' Rank: TWENTY- Diablo II - Platform: PC - Genre: Action-RPG
Yes Diablo II really is one
of my favorite games, while not being even close to the top ten spot, it sure
deserves a twenty spot. The fact is the free multiplayer experience battle.net
provides is tempting to enjoy, but I am not just speaking of that, I am speaking
of the single player mode that can provide much enjoyment without dealing with
the pressure of being forced by other high level characters to be rushed and
have better items. Therefore, Diablo II has earned my twenty spot.
Paulos' Rank: NINTEEN- Super Mario Brothers Two - Platform: Nintendo - Genre: Adventure
Super Mario Brothers two was
the most confusing and complex out of all the Mario games on the NES. Being the
highly anticipated SEQUEL to perhaps the "best game ever made" at the
time, when it had come out fans were a little displeased at how it was a little
different than the original. The graphics had upgraded a bit, and the storyline
was downright different. But as I have always said if you play a game right you
see it's qualities, and Super Mario Brothers two sure has plenty of qualities.
Paulos' Rank: EIGHTEEN- Rage of Mages - Platform: PC - Genre: RPG
What a spectacular RPG! In
this game you are able to play as either a Male Fighter, Female Fighter, Male
Wizard or a Female Wizard. The Wizards can only wear wizardly cloaks and use
staves, but they have deadly magic. The Fighters can use heavy armors and use
all types of weapons from pikes, clubs, maces, swords, daggers, bows, and more!
Definately a great game. One of my favorites.
Paulos' Rank: SEVENTEEN- Ogre Battle 64 - Platform: Nintendo 64 - Genre: RPG
Ever
hear of this game? Probably not, but for the few RPGs on the Nintendo 64 it is
the best one. Build armies of up to five units in every band of people, such as
Wizards, Knights, Paladins, Berserkers, and many more classes and fight evil
forces. Quite a nice touch this game has, very special game.
Paulos' Rank: SIXTEEN- The Bard's Tale - Platform: Nintendo - Genre: RPG
The Bard's Tale! Definately
one you have not heard of. The Bard's Tale was not exactly popular, but it was
sure heard of back in the early days of Nintendo. Why? Because it was one of the
first RPGs along with their Final Fantasies on the console! While not generating
the popularity of many, The Bard's Tale featured a lot of fun aspects of
gameplay. Build a team of adventurers while adventuring the town that is
overplagued with monsters. Actually the only trouble with this game could be
it's large amount of challenge, but that is a good thing.
Paulos' Rank: FIFTEEN- Age of Empires II - Platform: PC - Genre: Strategy
Age
of Empires II! Successor to one of the best strategy games ever made, and just
downright even better than the original. Start with a few villagers, and end the
game defeating all enemies while having a huge empire or kingdom. This game is
definately, great.
Paulos' Rank: FOURTEEN- Valis - Platform: Sega Genesis - Genre: Action
Just not popular enough of a
game, it is quite sad that the Valis series never received the high input of
players as Shining Force and Phantasy Star generated, nevertheless, you may see
that there are not many Phantasy Star-Shining Force games on this list! You
control Yuko in the game of Valis, who is once a usual schoolgirl then must
become a warrior using the Sword of Valis to destroy evil monsters. The concept
is plain grand and the action like gameplay should have been recognized more...
but it will be recognized, on Game Amazon it will be.
Paulos' Rank: THIRTEEN- Final Fantasy Tactics - Platform: Playstation - Genre: RPG
A
Final Fantasy for the Playstation I actually liked! This game was so different
from the other overrated Final Fantasy games, as it places you into a more
medieval background and allows you to build up a party of sixteen players. This
game should be heralded as one of the greatest games ever to appear on a device
that can be used to play video games.
Paulos' Rank: TWELVE- Seven Kingdoms: Ancient Adversaries - Platform: PC - Genre: Strategy
Seven
Kingdoms: Ancient Adversaries is such a magnificent PC game. Like the Fryhtan
wars version, you control armies and towns of a certain nationality, who plays
against certain other kingdoms. In this original version, you do not play
against the fryhtans actual establishments, but just the kingdoms in the
diplomacy charts. A grand game for an original.
Paulos' Rank: ELEVEN- Warriors of the Eternal Sun - Platform: Genesis - Genre: RPG
D&D,
a very special game for the Sega Genesis. Actually it can be heralded as a clear
classic, and will forever hold a grand section on this domain!! In this RPG, you
can make a party of four members of four human classes, and three demi human
classes such as Fighters, Dwarves, Elves, Wizards... and etc. Great game, I love
it.
Paulos' Rank: TEN- Age of Wonders - Platform: PC- Genre: RPG
Age of Wonders, my favorite
PC game of all games! I believe it is safe to say that of course, due to my love
for the other grand PC games it is hard to say such a quote. But I believe it is
just correct enough for this moment, Age of Wonders is my favorite PC game of
all time. So many things you can do in this game over and over again, I just
love it and you should too.
Paulos' Rank: NINE- Pokemon - Platform: Gameboy - Genre: RPG
This is such a unique RPG
game that instead of building knights, wizards, thives, warriors etc ... you can
build up "Pocket Monsters" and even have your own pets in the game.
The main interface of the game is battling other Pokemon with your own Pokemon
to make them gain experience and levels, great RPG! Pokemon is a VERY popular
name in Japan and USA, and it is basically known worldwide.
Paulos' Rank: EIGHT- Phantasy Star II - Platform: Genesis - Genre: RPG
Ahh
Phantasy Star II... I quoted this once before, it amazed many players with the
incredibly hard puzzles that it possessed in this game. You are Rolf who must
undergo a serious mission to investigate troubles with "Mother Brain"
and get the "Recorder". One of my favorites of course, the Phantasy
Stars are some great games... definately earning a FEW spots in my rankings ;).
Paulos' Rank: SEVEN- Super Mario Bros - Platform: Nintendo - Genre: Adventure
Did you believe I would
forget to give Mario credit? My Mario section will be one of the largest
resources on the net. But back to the ranking, Super Mario Bros the first truly
defines a great game that is loads of fun and downright CHALLENGING. Personally,
I have only beat Super Mario Bros a few times, and it is hard as heck! Such fun
that it will not be forgotten, it does not matter what year a game was made, it
is how the game plays is what is important!
Paulos' Rank: SIX- The Immortal - Platform: Genesis - Genre: Action RPG
This
is a game that I will "never" forget, and perhaps if you play it you
may feel the same way. Will Harvey should have made more games, for this was a
CLEAR CLASSIC. You play a wizard who must go through nine dungeons to rescue his
master. On the way you find out numerous facts about the world, history, and...
YOURSELF that you NEVER EVEN KNEW. Not to mention this game has a HUGE amount of
blood and gore, which I would not recommend to children, but to teens and adults
it is great. A ... spectacular game.
Paulos' Rank: FIVE- Dynasty Tactics - Platform: Playstation 2 - Genre: Strategy
Surprised to see a
Playstation 2 game on the list? I sure am not. Dynasty Tactics was released
recently in 2002, and this is a very popular game to strategy players. Dynasty
Tactics features HUGE amounts of different gameplay, the choice of being three
actual main characters and playing out their roles in the "Romance of the
three kingdoms" storyline. The reason this game is such fun to me is
because the strategy and graphics are so detailed, battles are incredibly
entertaining and if you like games where you control armies... you should get
this one.
Paulos' Rank: FOUR- Super Mario 64 - Platform: Nintendo 64 - Genre: Adventure
Super Mario 64! One of the best and most fun Mario games ever, and also
definately my most favorite adventure game EVER! Remember Super Mario Bros NES
where Mario just JUMPS and pounds Goombas? Those days are gone when you look at
Super Mario 64, he jumps, kicks, punches, moves, double jumps, flips, he is
SUPER alright. Super Mario 64... the best Mario game ever, that's for sure.
Paulos' Rank: Three- Super Mario RPG - Platform: Super Nintendo - Genre: RPG
It
was a shocker in the middle ninties when Super Mario RPG was announced as a game
that would be worked on, especially when players actually played it. Mario was
one of the most UNLIKELY characters in the gaming industry as being an RPG
character. Well, the fact is the game was more than popular, it was an explosion
of buys, stores ran out of purchases demanding more cartridges, yes Mario was at
one of his very peaks... I had some incredibly fun times with this game, Super
Mario RPG... one of the best RPGs ever.
Paulos' Rank: Two- Phantasy Star III - Platform: Genesis - Genre: RPG
The best Phantasy Star of
all of the series. Heavily outweighed in this opinion I stand my ground knowing
that this is also one of the best games in history as well. Phantasy Star III
added something that all the other Phantasy Stars failed to do... and because
those who played the other Phantasy Stars and this Phantasy star as well, and
due to the fact that if you cannot actually SEE what it succeeded to do unlike
it's brothers... then you will not understand why. But despite that fact,
Phantasy Star III had incredible puzzles and great characters, and also
exceeding many other RPGs in plain STORYLINE, and the first person view battle
system was ... was just right. Phantasy Star III is definately the best out of
the series.
Paulos' Rank: One *My Favorite*- Rings of Power - Platform: Genesis - Genre: RPG
RINGS OF POWER, MY FAVORITE
GAME OF ALL TIME AND COULD NEVER BE OVERRANKED OR OUTDONE BY ANY OTHER GAME EVER
RECORDED IN HISTORY. Rings of Power features every aspect just right in an RPG,
the storyline has such FEELING and DRAMA even from the beginning. The battle
system is the best I have ever seen in ANY RPG game... the characters are
unmatched in style and abilities. Rings of Power... my favorite game of all
time.
Well those are my FAVORITE games of all time, these are what I believe that are the favorite, the BEST GAMES of all time section will differ a bit compared to this list.
