Nationalities

In AOE2, you can choose your empire's nationality which will differ in technologies without the ALL TECH option on, and what your buildings will look like. Here are all the nationalities of AOE2! Click one of the buttons below to learn more about the specific nationality! Each nationality will be given a rating like in my FFT character class rating. 0.0 being the worst, and 5.0 being the best.

Aztec Rating: 1.1

To me, Aztecs lack a lot of technologies that are required to make a powerful war nationality and also their Special Unit reminds me of an Eagle Warrior... so really, Aztecs just aren't that great.

Rating: 3.4

Way better than the Aztecs, with more technologies and their very nice Long Bowmen, they, along with usual archers can really take down enemy forces. Britons are really good.

Rating: 2.9

Cataphracts are good calvary, but Paladins beat them. Oddly enough, so their special unit is beaten by stable units? Fascinating, but Byzantines are still a fine civilization.

Celts are not exactly not to die for, but may be considered the Barbarian like fighters! They aren't terrible though, they are good with movement and siege weapons due to their 50% hit point boost of siege wear.

Franks are just plain good. They are, their special units can be powerful in numbers. Their castles cosrt -25% less, Knights have more HP, and FARM UPGRADES ARE FREE with a mill! Franks are impressive.

Huskarls are good, real good. Perhaps lacking in archery, they are FUN to use in melee and are well versed economically. So, basically I'm proud to say Goths are very good to use.

For their time the Tarkans did prove to be unstoppable, but in AOE2 they can be taken down, so do not fear their leader's legacy with their ability to fight, all units in AOE2 are able to be destroyed. Huns are good for war however.

In all games, Japanese seem to have some godliness in some areas. Perhaps their Samurai are not as sizzling as they are in Seven Kingdoms, but in AOE2 they are extremely well balanced in economics and battle that they serve to be one of the best civilizations in AOE2.

If you like siegeware, towers and sea battles, Koreans are your best bet. They have powerful strengths in all these areas and can even fight good as well.

Not as bad as Aztecs, but they remind me of them alot! More resourceful than the Aztecs however, their Plumed Archers can fight, but not nearly as good as the Chinese.

This civilization is all about Calvary, also their great Mangudai Calvary Archers are really powerfully and shoot quickly, Mongols are good... Genghis Khan ring a bell...?

War Elephants are CHEAP, but effective!! They can pound and brutalize, though they have too much HP. Despite this, Persians can be very helpful in destroying enemy empires and it takes quite a while to knock them down, even needing siege wear to knock them out at times!

Arabs... the damned Arabs, they are beyond deadly. Look at them, look at this SCIMITARS, hooded not showing their true faces, they shall strike you brutally on their incredible camels with speed!

Imagine Hand Cannoneers on horseback!!! Imagine calvary with guns! That's the Spanish for you, with Gunpowder units who blast cannons at you while chasing you in pursuit on their quick horses!

Other than lacking Herbal medicine, they have alot of small things that make them rather big. But above all... their special unit. Teutonic Knight. HUGE attack with a DEVASTATING defense, normal infantry and even CALVARY EASILY fall to Teutonic Knights, they are masters of the sword and armored, their weakness is their slowness. Teutons however to me, are the best civilization in AOE2.

Turks are like the Spanish with their Gunpowder units, except not as good. They are good with siege as well!

How can you not like the Vikings? They are the biggest Barbarian type civilization in the whole game, beating Celts for sure. Got to love their Viking Longboats and their Berserks!!
