Starting Out

Here is information on how to start out on Civilization II!

After you choose your game settings, you will be placed onto this area map with one settler unit.

It is best to build a city IMMEDIATELY, so as I have shown to the left, the BUILD NEW CITY option can be used for the Settler unit! Let's build a city!

Now we shall name the city what we wish, Moscow.

It will now bring up this picture, MOSCOW FOUNDED on the year you build the city!

Now we are brought upon the city chart, with many options to do and to construct units and buildings! Moving right along...

In the beginning of your civilization's existence, you will need to build a few extra units for protection and especially a barracks. Then begin working on your science rate as I have prescribed and advised in the Hints + Tips section.

In the KINGDOM menu, on the TAX RATE, you will be able to choose how much % of your civilization's money is placed in certain catergories.

Taxes are low as you see in the beginning, and science is high. Science is what your civilization STRIVES on, USE IT AND GET ALL THE TECHNOLOGIES YOU CAN! Now to Advisors...

Your council is just that, your council. The HIGH COUNCIL actually, are those who are scouting their actual genres that their job implies to do. They will be VERY VITAL to you, especially if you're not sure of all the Civilization II commands.

After some turns, you will discover a technology that you chose originally, after, you can then choose your next technology!

Science Advisor helps here with his tip, for once again, beginners.

After you build your first Warriors *which I suggest for scouting* press around the map and move to the nearby hut to get something!

You have gained new units, and free units! Fine HORSEMEN! Let's make THEM the scouts now due to their higher mobility and the Warriors fortify in Moscow.

Random messages will come up in Civilization II and show you your competition amount you have.

Now that you know how to begin Civilization II, now you can begin constructing buildings and prepare for wars, I shall leave the rest to your advisors, good luck!
