WHY USE A FIGHTER?

Because, an example being. Look at this chart, we have Paulos, Eras, Jessica and Baron. Eras is an elf, but he cannot use plate armor like Paulos the Fighter. Mages cannot even use any armors, while Clerics can only use leather and chain, but not plate. Yes Clerics are pretty good, and not bad HP either! Maces can be pretty powerful, but Fighters are the best overall, just like Dwarves!

BEING THROWN OUT OF TOWN?

This needs to be known, I don't even care if it's a spoiler. A little later in the game after the Duke gets even more annoyed with your numerous scouting reports of finding more enemies, he actually throws you out of the town, unable to enter, UNABLE TO HEAL or buy equipment which is ANNOYING toward the end of the game. So be sure to save before you talk with the Duke after scoutings!
