Ahh yes... hanging out in one of my favorite english towns' taverns... "The tavernkeeper listens with interest as you describe your promotion to an English Ensign".

Along with seeing some weird faces in the tavern, many offer help to your needs that will perhaps assist you. Example, some crew sailors wish to join you at times depending on your reputation. Also, some travelers may offer to update your map records of certain towns which do not help THAT much only for town battles. Other than that, the pirate with the map in the tavern is one of the most vitals in the game, for it can lead to a BEAUTIFUL TREASURE!!

You can get a heck of a lot of news at the tavern also, which is what updates your map and your information about the Spanish Main. Frankly, Pirates! Gold has a legacy... being the best pirate game I have ever seen for it's complexity and enjoyment, even better than Uncharted Waters II when it comes to the smootheness. Though Uncharted Waters II alas, is still a better pirate game than this, this is more of a FIGHTING game while Uncharted Waters II places more strategy and reality like situations in the game other than getting married of course.
