The Past

Phantasy Star IV... a part of the greatest RPG series known to Sega Genesis, and I still say it tops Final Fantasy no many how many Final Fantasy games keep piling up upon their ranks.

No one forgets the first Phantasy Star, Alis Landle the main character and hero of the game, wielding the Elsydeon blade... this is the start to the magnificence of the story let alone gameplay of Phantasy Star.

Phantasy Star II unlike I and III, had IV's combat system of you seeing your characters land actual blows,

Rolf slashing down a few enemies, look carefully also at this photo as well, That's Chaz slashing down a Spread, as you see it looks different, yet their stances seem more the same,...

Now this is Phantasy Star III combat, you would almost think that this was lower graphical than Phantasy Star II. Also I have noticed even in Phantasy Star IV, the people of III are barely brought up, except for the worlds in III are actually spaceships with living people inside of them. I still find Phantasy Star III is the best Phantasy Star though due to it's incredible range of characters, a nice storyline, fine heir system, nice level up system. I was dearly impressed when I first saw PS III, now I am STILL impressed!

Phantasy Star IV, the largest most popular Phantasy Star ever created, not to mention the greatest graphical anime game I have ever seen in the 90s for any console, in-depth storyline, also even referring to much of the past games other than III.

I always wondered why PS III never had the fame of even PS II, also perhaps not as popular as PS I and IV. I mean sure it was "The Black Sheep" of the series, but I felt it was the best. Best stat building, sure no SKILLS and already set techinques, but those battles were SO CHALLENGING and difficult, even usual ones!

PS III's beginning introduction with the storyline almost acts as if Phantasy Star I and II did not EVEN EXIST except for the Neisword from PSII, that your last generation character uses in III. Still despite this, after III ends, IV appears out nowhere, beginning the most popular dominance of an RPG ever had for a console that ever existed, selling at an incredible $80 in stores! PSI's legacy of Alis Landle using the Elsydeon suddenly plays a huge part at the end of PS IV, as especially NONE of PS III's images nor thoughts were ever remembered!

We cannot forget the past! We shall not forget I, or II, and ESPECIALLY NOT III, and definately not IV!

Why was PS III disliked?

A big reminder, after PS I and II was released, naturally the whole Sega fans wanted another PS! After PS III was announced I'm sure everyone was going HAYWIRE knowing another PS would be published! This is exactly the reminder of what happened with Super Mario II for NES after the godly Super Mario came out in 1985. When Super Mario II was released, it was so much different, perhaps more difficult and a bit complex at times in puzzles, people did not enjoy it! I understood that, I also understand that PS III is sometimes a little tedious, and people do not like tediousness in games, so I understand that, but I still feel PS III being the second to last of the Sega Genesis Phantasy Star series should have gained more respect! Just wait until the PS III section goes up!!!

Those are each an image from Phantasy Star I, II, III and IV. Now as you see, each looks really colorful except for PS III. PS III looks perhaps more human like, more bland, not as animated and colored. The same thing for it's anime, as well as it's battles and text. I felt the PS series had alot of differences in each game after each game, and ESPECIALLY PS III had differences compared to each other game. You don't LEARN techniques like PS I and II, there are no such things as Skills like PS IV, but you can have a party up to five members in III AND IV, while I and II you can only have up to four.
