16th best game of all time, second to it's sequel eh?

Yes, Shining Force II is better than the first due to it's overall improvements, however Shining Force is a god of a game, and... as you said, 16th best!

Care to explain to us what Shining Force is about?

You are Max, a Swordsman under training of Lord Varios of Guardinia. The evil hordes of Runefaust are preparing to invade the regions of the lands, and take over everything! They must be stopped, as you have been chosen to lead a force to the gate of the ancients to investigate the Runefaust troops. One thing leads to another, from an invasion to your land and to other kingdoms, a huge adventure unfolds and many chapters await you!

Unlike Shining Force II, you cannot backtrack to lands you once went to, right?

Yes, Shining Force is sort of a "play it once then you're done with it" type of game, it has terrible replay value.

Is Shining Force really that good?

Yes, it's what started Shining Force!!
