Story

With the exception of Super Mario Brothers II, the NES Mario games have been quite BLUNTLY placed into the gameplay without explanation. Confused still? har, it's ok. What that means is that they just place you into the gameplay when you begin to play, no story or explanation! If you just bought SMB in 1985, all you would have is the booklet. If you did not have the booklet though, you would have had no information about the whole story! So, to give explanation of the story of Super Mario Brothers III due to that being a mystery than SMB the first, here it is from a booklet.

"The mushroom kingdom has been a peaceful place thanks to the brave deeds of Mario and Luigi. The Mushroom Kingdom forms an entrance to the Mushroom World where all is not well. Bowser has sent his seven children to make mischief as they please in the normally peaceful Mushroom World. They stole the royal magic wands from each country in the Mushroom World and used them to turn their kings into animals. Mario and Luigi must recover the royal magic wands from Bowser's seven kids to return the kings to their original forms. 'Good-bye and good luck' said the Princess and Toad as Mario and Luigi set off on their journey deep into the Mushroom World."
