Super Mario RPG... Mario in an rpg, quite fascinating still even in thought due to all his original accomplishments, does it still surprise people?

Absolutely, especially Paper Mario as well, though SMRPG is way better than the overrated Paper Mario.

When did SMRPG come out, and what's it about?

SMRPG was released in North America on 03/08/96, and I can imagine those were the gloriful days of Nintendo Magazine when they talked about Super Mario RPG in many of the pages. Super Mario RPG I should add, was one of nintendo's most ANTICIPATED games due to severe interest. MARIO... in an rpg! Though Super Mario 64 came out later in 1996, the fact remains that there was huge interest that BOOMED the gaming world with Super Mario RPG.

How is it so difficult to think of Mario in an rpg?

Because in RPGs you have to have many elements, and to be a successful one you need a variety of things such as weapons/armor/items/monsters and classes. YET... Super Mario RPG not only did that, but they brought an inspiring FUN factor and large storyline that made it not only a very decent rpg, but perhaps one of the best, and no doubt the best RPG on Super Nintendo, and that there is quite a victory.

How does SMRPG crack down as an rpg?

It does no doubt, so many qualities Super Mario RPG contains. You can have your five characters, sadly Luigi is not in the game which is sad, but would probably make Mario a bit shadowed so they left him out. Mario, Mallow, Geno, Bowser and Princess Toadstool. Imagine seeing Mario, Bowser, Toadstool fighting on the same side!! SMRPG has many SURPRISE qualities as well, such as that.
