The Story

Here it is, the explanation of what The Shining is about, don't worry, no spoilers!

My Description:

If you think The Shining is going to be a pleasant sun shining filled movie, think again. Stanley Kubrick made an ultimate horror movie that for some, will make you cringe... some, will make you laugh... and even some, will make you want to come back and observe anything you missed the first time you watched it! Recently seeing in a magazine a review with Jack Nicholson, oddly enough they didn't even bring up THE SHINING! I felt it was his best movie other than his performance as the Joker in the Batman, for he's a great villain! Onwards with THE STORY!

The Story:

Jack Nicholson plays as Jack Torrance, a writer/recovering alcoholic *nice combo*... the movie starts off with us looking over a large sierra from a helicopter's view... as Jack drives to The Overlook Hotel. There, he gets the job as the Winter Caretaker... not even phased by the fact that the "Tragedy of 1970" where the original Winter Caretaker Delbert Grady *Philip Stone* went crazy and chopped his family up then killed himself.

Jack brings up his family, Wendy Torrance *Shelley Duvall* and Danny Torrance *Danny Lloyd*, and they begin their lovely five month stay at the beautiful and renowned Overlook Hotel. Everything seems pretty nice eh? Being boxed up in a large mansion for five months... nah ah. From even the beginning of the movie you realize something is not usual with the hotel, and ghosts, yes GHOSTS haunt the hotel! Not usual ghosts, they look like humans... they are more like beings that once existed there, but they have full control of the hotel... later Jack will be tempted by the evil side, and slowly begin to go insane... some of us perhaps remember the scene with Jack and Lloyd the Ghost at the bar... very funny. All I can say is it's one of the best movies ever, possibly the best horror movie as well due to the plot, great acting, and scenes... and of course, my favorite movie.

My Opinion:

While watching it when it was on the channel A&E, I noticed they only gave it 3 stars... which is not bad I guess, but it was a movie among movies, especially years ago. Even NOW I still feel it's one of the best among all, I cannot stand those new horror movies that they think suspense is someone behind a mask with a knife coming to get you out of nowhere *cough* Scream *cough*. No... horror is following a specific character, then watching them go evil for about an hour... and evil, to PURE EVIL, and about to murder everyone in sight! So, it's my favorite movie and one of the best, I sure hope you feel that way too.
